A Source of Hope: Pediatric Chaplain Needed in Edinburg, TX.

Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Edinburg, TX is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Pediatric Chaplain to provide spiritual and emotional care to children, families, and staff during some of life’s most vulnerable moments.

General Purpose of Job:

Performs spiritual functions associated with beliefs and practices of religious faith or denominations as authorized and provides spiritual and moral assistance and guidance to patients, families and staff by performing the following duties

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the discovery and use of spiritual resources from the lives of patients and their families during their hospitalization.
  • Be a liaison between special needs religious groups and local clergy support as needed.
  • Provide spiritual and emotional support to DCH staff.
  • Perform religious rites and sacraments as needed, e.g. funerals and weddings.
  • Serve as resource person for local clergy.
  • Work schedule is normally 0800-1700, Monday through Friday.  It also includes on-call duty for providing 1/3 of coverage for 24/7/365 pastoral care coverage for the hospital, including coverage of 1/3 of weekends annually.
  • On-call whenever not on-site, providing emergency coverage.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed.
  • Ecclesiastical endorsement by a faith group
  • Must have strong interpersonal and written/oral skills to interact effectively with patients, patient’s families, visitors, hospital and medical staff
  • Spanish speaking preferred
  • Ability to safeguard confidence
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Driscoll Children’s Hospital

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Completed a B.A. degree or its equivalent from an accredited university/seminary.
  • Pediatric experience preferred.

Our Chaplains require a Master of Divinity degree or related field and 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by ACPE, with at least 2 units in a pediatric setting preferred.  They must also be board certified or eligible to complete board certification within 2 years hire.

Associate Chaplain

Part time (M-F day shift) opportunity at our hospital in Akron.

Our Associate Chaplains require a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 1 unit of CPE, accredited by ACPE, required.  Must obtain 4 units of CPE within two years of hire.

 

On-Call Staff Chaplain

This role responds to spiritual care needs as they arise, particularly during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, offering a supportive presence during times of crisis, grief, or uncertainty.

Bachelor’s degree in theology, religious studies, pastoral care, or a related field and at least one unit of CPE accredited by ACPE, required.

Baptist Health is currently looking for a Chaplain for our Spiritual Care department at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. This is a Full-Time Days opportunity and will support Wolfson’s Pediatric ICU (PICU) and assist with Pediatric Behavioral Health Purpose and Meaning Support Groups.
The Chaplain will provide pastoral care and counseling, offer religious resources, and support groups for team members, patients, patient’s families, hospital staff and physicians by developing efficient follow-up support plans. The chaplain will respond to referrals from nurses, physicians, and local clergy while assisting and collaborating with pastoral care staff, residents, students, and volunteers.

As a Chaplain II, your responsibilities will include:
• Provide evidence based, expert spiritual care to patients and their loved ones including spiritual assessment, interventions and monitoring of outcomes as a fully integrated member of the interdisciplinary care team.
• Provide spiritual and emotional support to Baptist Health team members through daily rounding, group and individual support and Spiritual Care Departmental programs
• Under the direction of the Spiritual Care Administration, collaborate with hospital staff including, lead chaplains, community clergy, and hospital team members.

Founded in 1982 as Joliet Area Community Hospice, Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care is an independent, nonprofit healthcare provider licensed in 11 counties in northwest Illinois.  We provide exceptional serious illness care, hospice care and grief support for adults and children.

The majority of our direct patient care is in the field with Lightways team members providing care in the home, nursing facility or assisted living facility.  We also have a 24-bed inpatient unit in Joliet.  Non-clinical staff are based out of our Joliet administrative offices.

Pediatric Chaplain:

The Pediatric Chaplain is responsible for the provision of spiritual care services to patients and families/caregivers of Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care, either directly or through coordination of care with other spiritual counselors.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Assures spiritual assessment of patients and families/caregivers in the hospice program and appropriate services are rendered in a timely manner.
  • Facilitates the development of the individualized plan of care by participating in the comprehensive assessment to meet identified spiritual needs.
  • Serves as liaison and support to community chaplains and spiritual counselors.
  • Maintains records of spiritual care services utilization and related activities for quality assurance, program development, and policies and procedures review and revision.
  • Documents direct services and ongoing communication with community chaplains and spiritual counselors.
  • Attends patient care conference and interdisciplinary group meetings as a member of the interdisciplinary group.
  • Monday through Friday Schedule with on-call responsibilities.

Education/Experience:

  • Graduate of accredited seminary or school of theology (BD, MDiv or equivalent theological degree).
