Sustaining a Spirit of Wonder: On Being a Pediatric Chaplain When Everything Keeps Changing

Chaplains experience change throughout their careers, often from the first day on the job. Too much change can feel overwhelming, and it can be hard to know how to respond. From systemic health care shifts to internal growth and awareness, care giving experiences impact who and what we are, as well as where and how we fit. How do we sustain the spirit of pediatric chaplaincy, curiosity and wonder, professionally and personally? In this intensive, we will explore the experience of change in four categories: imposed, natural, spiritual, and chosen. For chaplains to work sustainably we need to balance how, when, and why we change. What is the best response for you? Adapt? Assimilate? Move on? We will use experiential learning to create space, in community together, to name and process different types of change we experience, and to identify tools to move authentically toward agency and empowerment.

This 6-hour Intensive is offered in-person only and will be led by faculty of the Pediatric Chaplains Institute. It will require arriving one evening earlier than main conference and is an additional cost with separate registration.
